At Her Hair My Head, we know from personal experience that buying wigs and toppers online isn't always easy. Finding the perfect piece can involve a lot of trial and error, and sometimes you don't know whether a wig or topper is right for you until you've tried it on.

We've made our fair share of expensive mistakes over the years! And with some retailers charging restocking fees or restricting returns, it's easy to end up with a beautiful piece of alternative hair that simply isn't right for you.

That's why we created the Her Hair My Head Preloved Marketplace – a trusted place to buy and sell new and gently worn wigs and toppers.

Whether you're looking to give an unworn piece a new home or hoping to find your dream hair for less, our marketplace makes buying and selling alternative hair easier. And, of course, choosing preloved is kinder to both your wallet and the planet!

Please note: Our marketplace is exclusively for wigs and toppers. We do not accept hair extensions or bundles of human hair.

How to sell your wig or topper

Selling through our Preloved Marketplace is simple. We take care of photographing, listing, promoting and selling your piece, so you don't have to. Before getting started, please read the information and terms and conditions below.

Step 1 – Complete the selling form GO TO FORM

Fill out our Preloved Selling Form, providing as much information as possible about your wig or topper, including its brand, colour, length, condition and any modifications.

Having trouble with the form? Occasionally, the form doesn't work correctly on mobile devices. If you're unable to submit it, please email preloved@herhairmyhead.co.uk and we'll happily send you a copy by email.

Step 2 – Pay the listing fee PAY HERE

There is a £50 listing fee per piece, payable upfront. This covers the time involved in preparing, styling, photographing, listing and promoting your wig or topper. The listing fee is non-refundable once we have begun preparing your piece for sale, subject to your statutory rights.

Step 3 – Send us your piece

Once you've completed the form and paid the listing fee, you can post your wig or topper to us. When it arrives, we'll check its condition, style and photograph it, and create a detailed listing on our website. We'll also promote your piece through our social media channels, email newsletters and private members-only Facebook group to help it reach potential buyers.

Your listing will remain live until your piece sells or you ask us to remove it.

Please only send your piece once you have completed the selling form and paid the listing fee.

Important postage information

  • Include your details. Please put your full name and contact details inside your parcel so we can identify your piece when it arrives.

  • Packaging. You don't need to send the original box, but please include any original tags and care instructions if you have them.

  • Use tracked and insured postage. We strongly recommend choosing a fully tracked service with insurance that covers the full value of your wig or topper. For UK deliveries, we use Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm.

  • Responsibility for postage. You are responsible for ensuring your piece reaches us safely. Her Hair My Head cannot accept liability for parcels lost or damaged in transit before they reach us. Any claims should be made directly with your chosen delivery provider.

Sending from outside the UK?

Please contact us before posting your piece so we can advise on the appropriate customs documentation. You are responsible for ensuring the parcel is correctly declared and for any applicable customs charges. Any charges incurred by Her Hair My Head may be deducted from your sale proceeds or charged to you before your piece is returned.

Selling fees and payment options

When your wig or topper sells, you can choose how you'd like to receive your money.

Option 1 – Receive payment by bank transfer

We charge 25% commission on the final selling price, with the remaining 75% paid to you by bank transfer.

For example, if your piece sells for £600:

  • Selling price: £600

  • Our commission (25%): £150

  • You receive: £450

The £50 listing fee is payable separately and is not deducted from our commission. Once your piece has sold and the buyer's 14-day return period has passed, provided the sale has not been returned or disputed, we'll arrange your payment by bank transfer.

Option 2 – Receive the full selling price as store credit

If you're planning to purchase another wig or topper, this could be the perfect option! Instead of taking our 25% commission, we'll give you 100% of the final selling price as Her Hair My Head store credit.

For example, if your piece sells for £600:

  • Selling price: £600

  • Our commission: £0

  • You receive: £600 in store credit

Your credit can be used towards any product on the Her Hair My Head website or for purchases made in person. Store credit is valid for 12 months from the date of issue. Once the buyer's 14-day return period has passed, provided the sale has not been returned or disputed, we'll email you your store credit code.

Terms and conditions

Please read the following information carefully before submitting your selling form and paying the listing fee.

Listing fees

We charge a £50 listing fee for each wig or topper submitted for sale. If you're selling multiple pieces, a separate listing fee applies to each item. The fee covers the work involved in preparing and marketing your piece. By submitting the selling form and making payment, you confirm that you have read and agree to our Preloved Marketplace terms and conditions.

Cancellations and returns to sellers

You can request to cancel your listing at any time, provided your piece has not already been sold and dispatched to a buyer. If you decide to withdraw your piece, you will be responsible for the cost of tracked and insured return postage. Once we have begun preparing, photographing, listing or promoting your piece, the £50 listing fee is non-refundable, subject to your statutory cancellation rights. If your piece has already sold and been dispatched, we cannot cancel the transaction.

Condition of wigs and toppers

We accept wigs and toppers that are brand new, unworn or gently used and in good, resaleable condition. Pieces with minor signs of wear may be accepted, provided these are clearly disclosed on the selling form and reflected in the asking price. We reserve the right to decline pieces that we believe are unsuitable for resale.

Please note: We cannot accept wigs or toppers that have been worn or stored in a smoking household.

Cleaning requirements

All pieces must be thoroughly washed, dried and brushed before being sent to us. If a piece arrives requiring washing, an additional cleaning fee will apply:

  • Synthetic wigs and toppers: £20

  • Human hair wigs and toppers: £40

Accurate product information

It's important that you provide accurate and honest information about your piece. Please disclose any alterations or modifications, including:

  • Cutting or restyling

  • Colouring, bleaching or toning

  • Added, removed or repositioned clips

  • Alterations to the cap or base

  • Any damage, repairs or signs of wear

If your piece has been professionally cut or coloured, please let us know. We carefully inspect all pieces before listing them and reserve the right to amend the product description, recommend a different selling price or decline the listing if the information provided is inaccurate.

Our top tips for selling your wig or topper

Want to give your piece the best possible chance of finding a new home? Here are some things we've learned from selling preloved alternative hair.

1. Choose a realistic selling price

Pricing your piece correctly is one of the most important factors in achieving a sale. As a general guide, we recommend:

Brand new and unworn pieces: Around 20–30% below the current retail price.

Gently worn pieces: Around 40–50% of the original retail price, depending on their condition, age and brand.

These are guidelines rather than guarantees. Some pieces will achieve higher prices, while others may need to be priced more competitively.

Human hair wigs and toppers

In our experience, human hair pieces priced at around £500 tend to attract the most interest and sell more quickly. However, premium pieces from sought-after brands such as Highline Wigs, Lusta, TrendCo and Follea can often command higher prices, particularly when they're in excellent condition.

Synthetic wigs and toppers

Brand new synthetic pieces with their original tags are generally easier to sell than worn pieces. Synthetic fibres have a shorter lifespan than human hair, particularly on longer styles where friction can cause tangling and frizz. With regular wear, shoulder-length and longer synthetic pieces may show noticeable signs of wear within 6–9 months, although this varies depending on the fibre and how well the piece is cared for. We may accept lightly worn synthetic pieces, but not those with significant tangling, frizzing or damaged fibres.

2. Consider any alterations

Pieces that haven't been heavily customised are often easier to resell because they give the new owner more flexibility.

Fringes

Human hair wigs and toppers without a fringe generally appeal to a wider range of buyers. We do accept pieces with fringes, but very short or thick fringes can be harder to sell because they may have been cut specifically to suit the original owner's face shape and preferences.

Cutting and colouring

If your piece has been cut, coloured or otherwise modified, please provide as much detail as possible. Let us know whether the work was carried out professionally or whether you made the alterations yourself.

3. Include as much information as possible

Pieces from recognisable brands are often easier to sell, particularly when we know the exact style name and colour. If possible, please provide:

  • Brand and style name

  • Original colour name or code

  • Hair length

  • Cap or base size and construction

  • Original purchase price

  • Approximate age and amount of wear

  • Details of any modifications

Don't worry if you don't have all this information. We can measure your piece and identify many of its construction details, but the more information you can provide, the better.

4. Be honest about the condition

We want buyers to feel confident purchasing preloved alternative hair, so transparency is incredibly important. Please tell us about any wear, alterations or imperfections, even if they seem minor. We have extensive experience with wigs and toppers and carefully inspect every piece before listing it. Providing accurate information from the outset helps us create an honest description, set a realistic price and find the right buyer.
