Super Flat toppers & Luxury wigs
Can I dye my human hair topper or wig?
We have rigorously tested our own brand of Super Flat toppers and Luxury wigs to see how they respond to a variety of colour services – both bleach/lifting, tints and toners.
Our blonde-based pieces can be tinted to darker shades and toned to various shades of blonde: e.g. gold tones, copper/red tones, purple/violet tones etc. However, toning to achieve cooler or ash blonde tones is not advisable, as our testing has revealed a propensity for the hair to pull/hold green tones when using ash.
We strongly advise NOT to bleach/lift our blonde pieces as they have already been lightly processed and it will compromise the quality of the hair.
Our brunette-based pieces can be tinted to darker shades and can be lifted 2-3 levels maximum to create highlighted and balayage effects, followed by toning services.
Please note: alternative hair tends to yield darker results than bio hair, so always opt for 1-2 shades lighter when using tints.
When bleaching/lifting do not use higher than 20 vol developer and always use a bond reinforcing agent.
We advise you to always take your alternative hair to a colour specialist who has experience with colouring alternative hair pieces. We recommend Peluka Salon in Essex. You can also visit the MyNewHair website to search for a hairdresser who is trained in cutting and colouring alternative hair in your area.
Why do some of your pieces have a hygiene seal?
When we send out new pieces from our Super Flat topper range and Luxury wigs range, these will come with a hygiene seal. If this is removed, you are unable to return the piece. When you buy a piece from us online, you have the option to return or exchange the piece within 14 days. The placement of the hygiene seal allows you to try on the piece to check that the colour and fit is right, however it does not allow you to wear the piece without the hygiene seal being visible. We do not include a hygiene seal on our lace wigs, as these come with the lace at the hairline uncut. If you cut the lace, you are not able to return the wig.
What brushes are best to use on my wig/topper?
Soft bristle brushes are the most gentle option. We also recommend using a pin tail comb to change the parting on your piece. Be gentle when brushing your wig or topper and do not brush it while wet as the knots are most fragile when wet and it may cause the piece to shed hair.
How do I store my topper/wig?
We recommend storing your topper/wig on a block style head. HHMH sells canvas block heads that can be used for storing your piece and also for styling it.
When washing your piece, do not dry it on a block head. It needs to be on an open stand. We sell plastic stands that you can store or dry your piece on. These are also great for when you are travelling as they can be folded flat to fit in a bag or suitcase.
Why is my topper/wig shedding?
It is usual for your piece to shed some hair over time. And this is more common with lace parting pieces, as the knots are very delicate. Each hair is individually knotted into the parting area and over time the knots can get loose and shed. However, if you care for your piece properly, the hair should not shed to the extent where you get bald patches.
