Get to know our Super Flat topper bases

Her Hair My Head sells our own range of Super Flat toppers that are made from high-grade Brazillian REMY human hair.

Standard base construction

We offer two types of parting: closed lace parting and silk top parting. Our standard topper base comes with closed-wefted back and sides, a comb at the hairline (on silk tops) and 6 pressure-sensitive clips to attach the piece to your hair. Our closed lace toppers come with a silk liner, which can be removed on request.

Base sizes

Our standard base sizes for silk and lace partings are 7x7”, 8x8” and 9x9”. We chose these sizes as they hug your head rather than just perching on top, which gives a flatter and more natural appearance.

These are the sizes that we regularly have in stock, but we can order custom base sizes, such as a Whopper (10x10”) or a fully hand-tied mini topper (3.5x5.5”). They have to be made from scratch and are considered a custom order, which means they can take around 6-8 weeks to make. If you would like to order a custom base size, please email: georgina@herhairmyhead.co.uk

Standard base - silk top parting

The silk top parting area is 4x4" and is a multidirectional parting, which means you can change the parting anywhere within this area. Each hair is sewn by hand into a layer of silk, which gives an extremely natural look and appears as if the hair is growing out of a scalp. Silk top toppers come with a comb that sits just behind the hairline (this can be removed or replaced with a clip).

TOP TIP – silk partings look very natural, but the hair at the hairline does want to naturally fall forward. The hair can be styled so that it sits back off your face (and not in your eyes!), however the front section of the topper at the hairline is closed, meaning you cannot style the hair right back off your face like you would with a closed lace front. Silk topper are also ideal if you wear a fringe.

Standard base – closed lace parting

The lace top parting area is 4x5" and is a multidirectional parting, which means you can change the parting anywhere within this area. Each hair is sewn by hand into a layer of lace, which is light and breathable to wear. Our lace toppers come with a liner, which can be removed on request. The 4” wide lace front goes from temple-to-temple. Some customers like to use wig tape [buy it here] to stick the lace front section down to allow them to style the hair right back off their face. Lace toppers do not sit as flush to the head as lace wigs. This style of topper is ideal for customers who want a slightly flatter, lighter and more breathable piece.

How is closed lace different to a lace front? A lace front has a piece of lace material at the hairline that is usually uncut, so the customer can cut it back themselves to create a realistic hairline. We have found that with lace front toppers, you often need to glue or tape the lace down to make it sit flat on your head. A closed lace hairline means that the lace is folded over at the hairline and sewn together. We have found that closed lace toppers can be worn without the need for glue or tape. A closed lace topper can be worn behind the hairline to blend with your own hair, or it can be worn in front of your hairline with none of your own hair pulled out.

Knot information – We do not bleach the knots on our lace wigs as this can shorten the lifespan of the wig, so on darker colours, the knots will be visible as small dots. Pictures below show the knots on a lighter wig and a darker coloured wig. These can be covered up using scar tape on the underside of the lace or by dabbing concealer directly onto the knots.
